Description
mPEG Acrylate (mPEG-ACRL) is a linear monofunctional PEG reagent with an acrylate group at one end of the PEG chain and a methoxy group at the other. This functional group enables various applications, including:
- Polymerization: mPEG-ACRL shows reactivity towards radical and UV-initiated polymerization mechanisms, making it a candidate for PEG hydrogel synthesis.
- “Thiol-Ene Click Chemistry: The acrylate group reacts with thiols under mild conditions, enabling the formation of covalent bonds. This is useful for modifying surfaces, crosslinking polymers, and creating bioconjugates.
Solubility:
- Widely soluble: mPEG acrylate is soluble in a wide range of organic solvents, including: Ethanol, Chloroform, DMF (Dimethylformamide), DMSO (Dimethyl sulfoxide), Acetone, THF (Tetrahydrofuran)
- Molecular Weight: Higher molecular weight mPEG acrylates tend to be less soluble in water but more soluble in organic solvents.
- Low Molecular Weights mPEG-acrylate are generally soluble in a variety of solvents, including: Water, Ethanol, Chloroform, Dimethylformamide (DMF)
- Temperature: Solubility generally increases with temperature.
Applications:
- Biomedical Research:
- Drug delivery systems
- Tissue engineering scaffolds
- Protein and peptide modification
- Biosensors
- Materials Science:
- Polymer synthesis and modification
- Coatings and surface modifications
- Nanomaterials
