Description
Methoxy PEG Propionaldehyde (mPEG-ALD) is a linear, water-soluble polymer with a proinaldehyde group at one end of the PEG chain and a methoxy group at the other end. It is a reactive compound that can be used to modify proteins, peptides, and other molecules. The terminal aldehyde group can react with amines, such as the N-terminal of a protein, to form an imine bond. This reaction can be used to attach polyethylene glycol (PEG) to proteins, which can improve their solubility, stability, and pharmacokinetics.
Key properties:
- Reactivity: Reacts with N-terminal amines of proteins and peptides under mild conditions (pH 5-8) to form a stable imine bond.
- Applications:
- Protein modification to improve solubility, stability, and pharmacokinetics.
- Drug delivery to enhance bioavailability and reduce immunogenicity.
- Bioconjugation to attach bioactive molecules, such as enzymes or antibodies, to surfaces or carriers.
- Surface functionalization to modify the properties of materials.
- PEG hydrogel formation for tissue engineering and drug delivery.
- Solubility in water: highly soluble in water, making it a convenient reagent for aqueous reactions.
- Solubility in organic solvents: It is also soluble in organic solvents such as DMSO and DMF, which can be useful for reactions that require non-aqueous conditions.
Methoxy PEG Propionaldehyde is used in FDA-approved drugs. It is a chemical modification used in pharmaceuticals to enhance their properties, such as increasing their solubility, stability, and half-life.
